At last a good flying weekend?
Looking good so far
. Don't care where, but a NW flow is setting up on Saturday. And the temps look greater than 40
.

Would have been yet again if you had refrained from casting the Bacil spell. I've got an extensive database clearly demonstrating that the outrageous 5-days-in-advance Bacil forecast consistently produces weekends that aren't even good enough for a walk in the park ;pAt last a good flying weekend?
The way I see it: We need to hunt down and burn this sorcerer on a funeral pile if we want to fly again. At the most sacred of our sites, the Pulpit. I suppose we could save us a lot of work and sacrifice one ramp.

I think the form is to construct a giant man out of wicker, put the victim inside, and burn it - oh yeah, we all have to be naked and dye ourselves blue. - Hugh
Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Tough call. MRF shows WNW. ADDS shows West quickly shifting to light SW.
We're going skiing at Wisp.
Blow off the Superbowl and join us up at Wisp on Sunday-- it's only 3 hours from DC and 2.5 hours from Rockville. Should be pretty empty as usual on Superbowl Sunday.

Is skiing/snowboarding at Wisp better than White Tail? The resort looks lice on the internet.
Yeah, looks like another crappy weekend for flying, but I new that the second I read Bacil's post LOL

Wisp has more trails-- but not as much vertical drop. We've only skied there twice- had a good time each time. Feels more like a resort than Whitetail because you aren't always returning to the same couple of spots at the bottom of the lift.

I'm thinking Pulpit Saturday morning. I've got salt for the ramps. Should be some leftover west winds

Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Glen and I would like to do a double header. Fly the Pulpit on Friday before sunset, stay over and do it again Saturday morning. So, we'll be there. Anybody else who wants to fly Friday as well and perhaps hang out with us?

Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Make it a triple header--- find a cheap motel near Cumberland and then join us for skiing on Sunday morning.

I'm seeing freezing rain Friday afternoon and have plans that evening, but could rally Saturday morning for an early departure, bringing both HG and PG. - Hugh

Yup, Friday doesn't look good anymore, but Saturday still does. What time will everybody be there?

Aim for 1000. - Hugh
Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Might need implements/chemicals to chip the ice off the ramps. Been there, done that... - Hugh

Now looking at Dickey's for Saturday. - Hugh
Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Dickey's looks reasonable saturday and possibly a little better on sunday. I will probably go Saturday because of committments on Sunday.

Well I was hoping to fly Dickey's today, saturday but the Shenandoah National park recording says that Skyline Drive is closed due to inclement weather. While I don't mind hiking my glider in I 6 miles is a bit much for me.
I may just take a hike to launch without glider.

Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Bacil arrived at the Pulpit as I was on my way up. He called me and said the ramps were severly iced. We got hammered here yesterday with a big ice storm. No go for today...........That damn groundhog said 6 more weeks of winter today. Has he ever not said that? Still cloudy and icy here in Chambersburg at 11:00.
Peace, Shawn.

Re: At last a good flying weekend?
Yep I got to the Pulpit at 8:45A and wisely kept the truck in the bar parking lot. 1/2 to 3/4" of ice covering everything. Took the shovel, broom, and salt up to the left ramp and started breaking up the ice on the backside. Got 3/4 of the backside cleared and saw that there was no way I was going to do the front side by myself. Called Janni and Shawn to tell them let's fly another day. Was careful as could be going back to the truck but sure enough I busted my rear pretty good falling down near the bottom of the parking lot. So here it is 9:30A, and I got the bright idea to drive the two hours to Elizabethville and try to fly that site for the first time. Saw on the radar yesterday that they got lots of rain east of the Susquehanna River later in the day. Figured this was a good thing. The road to the launch was sheer ice. The first slight incline I spun out, slid backwards, lost control, and the truck did an uncommanded 180, just like the police maneuver. Lucky no solid objects close to the edge of the road. Tried one more time with momentum built up, but it was for naught. Was more careful backing up this time (VERY SLOWLY). 0 for 2 against the ice

Went to McConnelsburg too getting there at 1:00ish. Low cloudbase and a sheet of ice although it was quite pretty with the ice-encased tree branches.
The pass leading up to Blue Ridge Summit and the upper half of South Mountain (High Rock) was also encrusted. Might want to check up there for ice before comitting to a HR day tomorrow.
It's going to be some time before that stuff finally melts at the 'burg!
